The Lucky Pencil is a tribute to the original "Deco 34" model from the 1930s, reimagined as a limited edition in sterling silver and gold vermeil, featuring the same distinctive square shape and signature pattern that once saved Lt. Leslie March's life.
Lt. March, one of the first volunteers in World War II, received this Yard-O-Led pencil from his wife Margaret. During his service with the Cameron Highlanders, the pencil stopped a bullet in a life-threatening situation and became Lt. March’s personal lucky charm. It accompanied him until the Normandy landing on D-Day +1, where he tragically lost his life the following day.
After his death, the pencil was kept as a treasured family heirloom until it was eventually donated to the Yard-O-Led Museum by his stepbrother, Mr. Kelly, who still remembers Lt. March as his "hero."
For the reissue of the "Deco 34," all tools were faithfully reproduced, and the writing instrument is meticulously handcrafted in the Yard O Led workshop in Birmingham. The edition is limited to 734 pieces in sterling silver and 734 in gold vermeil - a reference to Lt. March's service number (190734).
Each of these unique writing instruments, crafted from 925 sterling silver, comes with a lifetime guarantee and will be available for pre-order with a limited-edition leather case. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Royal Marines Charity to support marines and their families.
