David Oscarson – Magna Carta Collection
The Magna Carta Collection is the twenty-fourth edition in the David Oscarson series. It is released in four color variations and is limited to 800 pieces each, a reference to the year 1215, in which King John sealed the Magna Carta.
Magna Carta was a turning point in European legal history. The document originated as a peace settlement between the unpopular king and a group of rebellious barons. It protected ecclesiastical rights, guaranteed free men a fair trial, and limited arbitrary interference by the crown. Over the centuries, Magna Carta became the foundation of English law and a symbol against tyranny. Its influence extends far; in the United States, its spirit is reflected, among other things, in the Fifth Amendment and the principle of habeas corpus.
The collection translates this historical heritage into an artful object. Crafted from .925 sterling silver, the writing instruments combine multi-layered guilloché engravings with translucent and opaque hard enamel. Each piece is individually engraved, fired multiple times, and hand-filed until its characteristic depth and glass-like luster are achieved.
Article 39 of the Magna Carta is engraved on the shaft. It formulates the principle that defines the rule of law to this day: No one shall be deprived of his liberty without a lawful judgment of his equals or without the law of the land.
The cap features the Union Jack in translucent enamel, while the stem displays the American flag in opaque enamel. King John's main seal is located on the crown, with a second seal at the base of the stem. The scales of justice on the clip serve as a reminder of the document's central message.
The Magna Carta Collection is released in four versions.
A writing instrument that honors central principles of freedom and translates historical symbolism into artisanal precision.
