Tune & Smooth – Nib Optimization

Professional fine-tuning for a reliable and pleasant writing experience.

During a Tune & Smooth service, the existing nib is carefully inspected and adjusted without intentionally changing its line width or basic geometry.

• Alignment and inspection of the nib tines
• Inspection and balanced adjustment of ink flow
• Careful polishing and refinement of the tipping to reduce unwanted scratchiness
• Final writing test and fine-tuning

This service is ideal for new fountain pens or nibs that write too dry, unevenly or roughly from the factory, and for customers who would like their nib professionally checked and optimized before dispatch.

Difference from a nib grind: Tune & Smooth does not fundamentally alter the nib width or characteristic line variation. For a deliberate change to the writing geometry, such as Stub, Cursive Italic, Oblique or Architect, please select a nib grind.

Tune & Smooth is already included with every nib grind and does not need to be ordered separately.

The nib optimization is personally carried out by Phillip Landsiedel on the fountain pen or nib ordered together with the service.
