David Oscarson – Les Quatre Couleurs Collection
The Les Quatre Couleurs Collection is the 17th edition of David Oscarson's limited edition writing instruments and a tribute to the history of playing cards – and to the symbolic power of the four suits: spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs.
The name Les Quatre Couleurs means "The Four Colors" or "The Four Symbols" and refers to French playing cards, whose design has set the European standard since the 15th century. Each symbol represents a social order: spades for the nobility, hearts for the church, diamonds for commerce, and clubs for the people. These symbols, bearers of meaning and play for centuries, form the design heart of this collection.
Each writing instrument in the Les Quatre Couleurs Collection is crafted from solid .925 sterling silver and features multi-level guilloché engravings filled with translucent and opaque hard enamel. The entire body is first ground down to the background, preserving the lines and ornamentation of the four symbols in high relief. The enamel is then applied by hand in multiple layers, fired at over 1000°F, ground, and polished—a process that gives each piece depth, luster, and lasting beauty.
All four colors appear in an artful balance on the cap and shaft – a play of symbolism, light and movement that unites tradition and modern craftsmanship.
The Les Quatre Couleurs Collection is limited to 88 pieces worldwide per color variant and is manufactured as a fountain pen (F, M, B) and rollerball.
