David Oscarson – Hans Christian Andersen “The Ugly Duckling” Collection
The Hans Christian Andersen Collection is the 38th edition of David Oscarson's limited-edition writing instruments and a tribute to the Danish author whose fairy tales are among the most translated in the world. This edition focuses on The Ugly Duckling – the timeless story of self-doubt, exclusion, and the discovery of one's own identity.
Each writing instrument combines artistic guilloche engraving and meticulously crafted hot enamel surfaces. The manufacturing process follows traditional enameling techniques: molten glass is applied multiple times by hand, fired at over 1000°F, ground, and polished until a silky, deeply luminous surface is achieved.
The design tells the story of the swan's development step by step. A hatching egg and shell fragments appear at the lower end of the shaft. Above this are three ducklings and their tracks in the shallow water, accompanied by the young swan, engraved beneath the enamel surface as an echo of its difficult childhood. The adult swan is depicted in high-relief engraving and translucent enamel, its reflection shimmering on the water below.
The clip shows a cracking egg, while the characteristic signature of Hans Christian Andersen is engraved on the cap's tip.
The Ugly Duckling Collection is produced as a fountain pen (F, M, B) and rollerball. Each of the five color variations is limited to 70 pieces – a symbol of Andersen's 70 years of life.
This edition not only honors the famous fairy tale, but also its core message: the journey from rejection and doubt to self-knowledge and self-worth. A writing tool that tells a story of courage, transformation, and inner strength.
