David Oscarson – Edwin Hubble Collection
The Edwin Hubble Collection is the 40th edition of David Oscarson's limited-edition writing instruments and a tribute to the man who redefined our understanding of the universe. Edwin Hubble (1889–1953) proved that the universe is expanding and that countless galaxies exist beyond the Milky Way – a discovery that forever changed our worldview.
This collection celebrates Hubble's scientific legacy and the beauty of the cosmos through exquisite craftsmanship. Crafted from solid sterling silver and hot enamel, each writing instrument combines engraving, symbolism, and astronomy in a harmonious design.
The barrel depicts the elliptical orbits of the planets – symbolizing order and movement within the solar system. At the cap's tip, the Earth shines in vibrant blue enamel, while a cabochon moonstone sphere on the clip represents the Moon. The end of the barrel features the Hubble crater , highlighted in enamel as a lasting tribute to the astronomer on the Moon.
The cap features an image of asteroid 1373 Cincinnati , which Hubble discovered in 1935. Next to it, the Milky Way unfolds as a spiral engraving motif with a background of sunbeams, dotted with countless stars – a symbol of the vastness of the universe, which Hubble was the first to scientifically measure.
Nebulae are also depicted in the finest engravings – the birthplaces of stars and the main subjects of images taken by the Hubble Telescope, named after him. The Hubble sequence, Hubble's famous 1926 classification of galaxy shapes, winds around the Milky Way in relief engraving. Radio waves, symbolizing the invisible frequencies used to explore the universe and transmit images back to Earth, run in low relief engraving in the background of the cap.
The handle is engraved with Hubble's signature and his famous quote: “The Universe is unfolding as it should.”
Every detail of this edition is a tribute to the connection between art and science – a balance of knowledge, precision and wonder.
The Edwin Hubble Collection is available in various color variations , each limited to 63 pieces – in honor of his 63 years of life – and is available as a fountain pen (F, M, B) or rollerball .
A writing instrument that celebrates the view into infinity – and the inquisitive spirit of a man who taught us that the universe is in constant motion.
