David Oscarson – 2012 End of Days Collection
The 2012 End of Days Collection is a tribute to the knowledge and symbolism of the ancient Maya – inspired by the end of the 13th Baktun cycle on December 21, 2012, a rare galactic event occurring only once every 26,000 years. On this day, the winter solstice sun aligns perfectly with the center of the Milky Way – a moment the Maya understood as a transition into a new era: the end of one world age and the beginning of the next.
The rich imagery of the Maya is reflected in the design of each writing instrument. Central figures from their mythology are depicted on the cap, barrel, and tip – including the 7 Macaw , symbol of the excessive ego, and One Hanahpu , the sun god who brings balance and renewal. Motifs such as the frog, embodying rebirth from the underworld, and the Hero Twins , heralding the return of light, represent transformation and spiritual renewal. Exquisite engravings and reliefs also depict the dot-and-bar script of the Mayan calendar and astronomical symbols such as the sun in the Dark Rift of the Milky Way.
Each piece in the collection is crafted from solid metal, adorned with fine guilloché engravings, and enameled in multiple layers of translucent and opaque hard enamel. The enamel is applied by hand, fired at over 1000°F, ground, and polished—a meticulous process that imparts depth, luster, and lasting beauty to each writing instrument.
The 2012 End of Days Collection is the 14th edition from David Oscarson. It is released in eight color variations, including:
-
Opaque Red & Black with multicolored translucent and opaque enamel in gold
-
Opaque Sapphire Blue with multicolored enamel (also available in gold)
-
Opaque Pistachio Green with multicolored translucent and opaque enamel
-
Opaque Black with multicolored translucent and opaque enamel (also available in gold)
-
Opaque Azure Blue with multicolored enamel in gold vermeil
Each color variant is limited to 52 pieces worldwide, including fountain pen (F, M, B) and rollerball.
This edition represents not an end, but a new beginning – a renewal of balance, spirituality, and light. A work of art that unites Mayan precision and the mastery of traditional enameling techniques in a timeless writing instrument.
